Sharon Farrell is an American actress. She was born on October 13, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her parents were Mary (née McCusker) and Joseph Aloysius Farrell. She has four siblings: Joseph, Kevin, Maureen, and Eileen. Farrell attended St. Louis University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964.
Farrell began her acting career in the early 1960s. She appeared in episodes of the television series The Fugitive and The Virginian. In 1964, she had a small role in the film The Patsy. Farrell’s first major role was in the 1966 film The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, opposite Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. The film was a critical and commercial success. Farrell’s performance earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
In the 1970s, Farrell appeared in several films, including The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Capricorn One (1977), and The In-Laws (1979). She also appeared in episodes of the television series Charlie’s Angels and Fantasy Island. In 1980, Farrell had a lead role in the film Saturn 3, opposite Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett. The film was a critical and commercial failure.
In the 1980s, Farrell appeared in episodes of the television series Magnum, P.I., Hart to Hart, and Remington Steele. She also appeared in the films Trenchcoat (1983), The Osterman Weekend (1983), and Fire with Fire (1986). In 1987, Farrell had a lead role in the film The Big Easy, opposite Dennis Quaid. The film was a critical and commercial success. Farrell’s performance earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress.
In the 1990s, Farrell appeared in episodes of the television series L.A. Law and NYPD Blue. She also appeared in the films RoboCop 3 (1993), Body Shots (1999), and Any Given Sunday (1999). In 2000, Farrell had a lead role in the film Drowning Mona, opposite Bette Midler. The film was a critical and commercial failure.
In the 2000s, Farrell appeared in episodes of the television series Boston Legal and Grey’s Anatomy. She also appeared in the films Cellular (2004), Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005), and Fireproof (2008). In 2009, Farrell had a lead role in the film My Life in Ruins, opposite Nia Vardalos. The film was a critical and commercial failure.
Farrell has been married three times: to actor Kevin McCarthy from 1966 to 1967; to producer Robert Ginty from 1979 to 1982; and to actor Scott Baio from 2007 to 2010. She has two daughters: Erin McCarthy, from her first marriage, and Bailey Baio, from her third marriage. Farrell has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice: in 1987 and again in 2006. She is a survivor of both cancers.
