Robert A. McDonald is an American businessman and former United States Army officer. He is the chairman, president, and CEO of Procter & Gamble (P&G). He served as the CEO of P&G from 2009 to 2013, and as the chairman and CEO from 2013 to 2015. He was succeeded by David Taylor as CEO in November 2015.
McDonald was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 20, 1948. He is the son of Robert and Dorothy McDonald. He has three brothers: Ronald, David, and Michael. He attended Denison University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1970. He also holds an MBA from the University of Utah.
McDonald began his career as an Army officer. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division. He retired from the Army in 1975 as a captain.
McDonald joined P&G in 1980. He has held various positions within the company, including president of P&G’s Asia operations, president of P&G’s European operations, and chief operating officer. He was named CEO in July 2009, and chairman in January 2010. He retired as CEO in October 2013, and was succeeded by A.G. Lafley. He remained chairman until June 30, 2015, when he was succeeded by Taylor.
McDonald has been a director of General Motors since 2016. He is also a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company and FedEx.
McDonald is married to Deborah McDonald. They have two children: Robert and Elizabeth.
McDonald has a net worth of $100 million. His salary as CEO of P&G was $15 million.
