Rituparna Sengupta is an Indian actress and model who predominantly works in Bengali and Hindi films. She is a recipient of several awards, including two National Film Awards, four Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards, four Anandalok Awards, three Star Jalsha Awards, three Tele Cine Awards and a Kalakar Award.
Sengupta was born on 7 November 1971 in Kolkata, West Bengal to a Bengali Hindu family. Her father, Late Mr. Dipak Sengupta was an engineer by profession and her mother, Mrs. Krishna Sengupta is a homemaker. She has two younger sisters. Sengupta did her schooling from Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata and graduated with a B.A. in English from Jadavpur University.
Sengupta started her career as a model and went on to act in Bengali films. She made her acting debut in the Bengali film Hothat Brishti (1998). She has worked in over fifty Bengali films and has also appeared in Hindi, Oriya, Tamil and Telugu films. Some of her notable Bengali films include Shubho Drishti (2003), Dosar (2006), Antaheen (2009), Goynar Baksho (2013) and Chotushkone (2014). She has won several awards for her performances in these films, including the National Film Award for Best Actress (2003) for Shubho Drishti and the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress (2006) for Dosar.
Sengupta has also worked in television. She made her television debut with the Bengali serial Tumi Asbe Bole (2002). She has also appeared in Hindi serials like Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin (2004) and Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2007).
Sengupta is married to actor Indraneil Sengupta. The couple have two daughters.
