Patrick Peterson is an American football cornerback for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Louisiana State University (LSU), where he was a two-time consensus All-American. He was selected by the Cardinals in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft with the fifth overall pick.
Early Life
Patrick Peterson was born on July 11, 1990, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Patrick and Shandra Peterson. He has two older brothers, Avery and Malcolm, and a younger sister, Gabrielle. His father was a running back at Florida State University and his mother was a track and field athlete at Louisiana State University.
Peterson’s parents divorced when he was four years old and he was raised by his mother. He began playing football at the age of six and continued to play throughout his childhood. He attended Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Florida, where he played football, basketball, and ran track.
Peterson was a highly regarded prospect coming out of high school. He was ranked as the No. 1 cornerback in the nation by Rivals.com and Scout.com. He was also named a Parade All-American and was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game.
College career
Peterson attended Louisiana State University, where he played for the LSU Tigers football team from 2008 to 2010. He was a two-time consensus All-American and was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. He helped lead the Tigers to the BCS National Championship Game in 2008 and to an appearance in the Cotton Bowl in 2010.
Peterson declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season and was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

2011 season: Rookie year
Peterson made an immediate impact as a rookie, starting all 16 games for the Cardinals and recording 71 tackles, two interceptions, and 12 passes defensed. He was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team and was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate.
2012 season: Second season
Peterson continued his strong play in his second season, starting all 16 games and recording 58 tackles, seven interceptions, and 21 passes defensed. He was again selected as a Pro Bowl alternate.

2013 season: Third season
In 2013, Peterson had another stellar season, starting all 16 games and recording 47 tackles, three interceptions, and 13 passes defensed. He was once again selected as a Pro Bowl alternate.

Peterson had another strong season in 2014, starting all 16 games and recording 54 tackles, two interceptions, and 17 passes defensed. He was once again selected as a Pro Bowl alternate.
2015 season: Fifth season
In 2015, Peterson had another excellent season, starting all 16 games and recording 49 tackles, one interception, and 18 passes defensed. He was finally selected to the Pro Bowl as a starter.
