Mark Owen is an English singer-songwriter. He is a founding member of the pop group Take That. Take That have had eight UK number one singles and eight UK number one albums, and have sold over 45 million records worldwide.
Owen was born in Oldham, Lancashire, England, on 27 January 1972, the youngest of three children. His father, Keith, was a coal miner and his mother, Marilyn, was a homemaker. Owen has two older sisters, Tracey and Nicola. He was educated at St Augustine’s RC Primary School and Hathershaw College in Oldham.
Owen’s musical career began when he auditioned for the UK television show The X Factor in 1990. He did not progress past the first round, but he was later contacted by Take That’s manager Nigel Martin-Smith and asked to join the group. Owen was initially reluctant to join Take That, but he eventually agreed and the group became one of the most successful pop groups of the 1990s.
Since Take That’s split in 1996, Owen has pursued a solo career. He has released four solo albums, Green Man (1996), How the Mighty Fall (2005), The Art of Doing Nothing (2013) and The Wave (2016). His singles include “Child”, “Four Minute Warning” and “Alone Without You”.
Owen has also appeared as a judge on The X Factor and as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.
Owen has been married twice. His first marriage, to Emma Ferguson, ended in divorce in 2009. He has two daughters from his first marriage, Pearl and Daisy. He married his second wife, Emma Silverthorn, in 2012. They have two sons, Eli and Kit.
Owen has an estimated net worth of £35 million ($45 million).
