Lloyd Bridges was an American actor who starred in a number of television series and films. He was born on January 15, 1913, in San Leandro, California, to Harriet Evelyn (née Brown) and Reuben Lloyd Bridges. His parents were both of English descent. He had four siblings: two brothers, Reuben and Everett, and two sisters, Gladys and Doris. Bridges was educated at the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied English literature.

He began his acting career in the theater, appearing in productions of Shakespeare’s plays. He made his television debut in 1949, appearing in an episode of the series “Lux Video Theatre. ” He went on to star in a number of television series, including “Sea Hunt” (1958-1961), “The Lloyd Bridges Show” (1962-1963), and “Cade’s County” (1971-1972). He also appeared in films such as “High Noon” (1952), “The Bridge on the River Kwai” (1957), and “Airplane!” (1980).

Bridges died of natural causes on March 10, 1998, at the age of 85.
