Leon Lai-ming, BBS, MBE is a Hong Kong actor and Cantopop singer. He is one of the “Four Heavenly Kings” of Hong Kong. Lai has won numerous awards and is particularly known in the Western world for his roles in the films The Transporter and Infernal Affairs.
Lai was born on 11 December 1966 in Beijing, China, to a family of Manchu ethnicity. His father, Lai Sheung-ho (黎尚豪), was a businessman, and his mother, Chow Wai-kuen (周惠娟), was a housewife. He has an older sister named Lai Wan (黎婉). The family emigrated to Hong Kong when he was four. He attended St. Francis Xavier’s School and graduated from Maryknoll Convent School in 1984.
Lai began his singing career in 1982 with the release of his first album, Smile. He has since released over 20 albums and has received numerous awards for his musical achievements.
Lai’s acting career began in 1987 with a small role in the film City on Fire. He has since appeared in over 60 films and television series, including the popular films The Transporter (2002) and Infernal Affairs (2002). Lai has won numerous awards for his acting, including the Best Actor award at the Hong Kong Film Awards and the Golden Bauhinia Award for Best Actor.
Lai is married to former model and actress Gaile Lok. They have two daughters: Ella and Aaliyah.
Lai has a net worth of $80 million. He is one of the highest-paid actors in Hong Kong, earning HK$40 million (US$5.1 million) per film.
Lai is a supporter of the Hong Kong football team. He is also a fan of the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers.
