Kenneth Gemmell
David Gemmell was born in London, England on the 1st of August, 1948. The son of a Scottish father and an English mother, Gemmell was brought up in London and attended secondary school in the city. It was during his time at secondary school that Gemmell developed a love for writing, and he would often write stories and poems for his classmates. After leaving school, Gemmell worked a variety of jobs before finding work as a journalist for a local newspaper. It was while working as a journalist that Gemmell began writing his first novel, Legend.
Legend was published in 1984 and was an instant success, becoming a bestseller in the UK. The novel told the story of Druss, a legendary warrior who is called out of retirement to help defend a besieged city. The novel was followed by a sequel, The King Beyond the Gate, which was also a bestseller.
Gemmell went on to write many more successful novels, including the Drenai series, the Rigante series, and the Stones of Power series. He also wrote a number of stand-alone novels, such as Waylander and White Wolf. Gemmell was a master of the epic fantasy genre and was widely regarded as one of the finest authors in the field. He won numerous awards for his work, including the World Fantasy Award and the British Fantasy Award.
Gemmell passed away in 2006, but his legacy continues to live on through his novels, which are still hugely popular with readers all over the world.
