Kyle Eastwood is an American jazz bassist and composer. He is the son of actor-director Clint Eastwood and Maggie Johnson. He has worked as a sideman for such musicians as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and his father. Eastwood has released several albums as a leader, including Songs from the Chateau (2007), which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Eastwood was born in Carmel, California, on May 19, 1968. His parents divorced when he was two, and he was raised by his mother in Carmel. Eastwood began playing the piano at age five and the bass at age thirteen. He attended Carmel High School, where he played in the jazz band. After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Southern California, but dropped out after one semester to pursue a career in music.
Eastwood moved to Paris in 1986 and began playing in clubs and studios. He met Wayne Shorter, who hired him as a bassist for a European tour. Eastwood also worked with Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, and his father. In 1992, he released his debut album, From There to Here.
Eastwood has released several albums as a leader, including Now (1998), Kyle Eastwood (2001), and Songs from the Chateau (2007). His album The View from Here (2013) won the Best Instrumental Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards. Eastwood has composed music for several films, including Mystic River (2003), Million Dollar Baby (2004), and Gran Torino (2008).
Eastwood has been married twice. His first marriage was to Laura Gomez in 1998. They have two children: a son, Graydon, and a daughter, Hayley. His second marriage was to Christina Sandera in 2013. They have a son, Eastwood.
