Kenny Dalglish is a Scottish former professional footballer and manager. He is Scotland’s most capped player of all time with 102 appearances, and also Scotland’s joint-leading goal scorer of all time with 30 goals. Dalglish won the Ballon d’Or Silver Award in 1983, the PFA Player of the Year in 1983, and the FWA Footballer of the Year in 1979 and 1983. He was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2009, Dalglish was voted Liverpool’s greatest player of all time.

Dalglish was born on 4 March 1951 in Glasgow, Scotland, to parents Elizabeth and Robert Dalglish. He has four siblings: Barbara, Robert, Hugh and John. Dalglish attended Milton Bank Primary School and Dalmarnock Academy. He started his football career with Scottish Junior Football Association club Cumbernauld United.
Dalglish began his professional career with Scottish Football League club Celtic in 1967. He won four Scottish League Championships and three Scottish Cups with Celtic. Dalglish was the Scottish Football League’s Player of the Year in 1971 and 1972. He moved to England to join Liverpool for a then-record transfer fee of £440,000 in 1977.
Dalglish won six English League Championships and three European Cups with Liverpool. He is one of only four players to have won both the European Cup and the English League Championship with two different clubs. Dalglish was Liverpool’s player-manager from 1985 to 1991, during which time he won three more English League Championships and two more FA Cups. He resigned as Liverpool manager in 1991 and returned to Scotland to manage Rangers for one season.
Dalglish had a second spell as Liverpool manager from 2011 to 2012. During his second spell as Liverpool manager, Dalglish won the League Cup and was named the Premier League Manager of the Season. He was sacked as Liverpool manager in 2012.
