Joseph Cross is an American actor, director, and producer. He is best known for his roles in the films Running with Scissors (2006), Milk (2008), and Winter’s Bone (2010).
Cross was born in Berkeley, California, the son of Joyce (née Ziegenfuss), a nurse, and Richard Cross, a carpenter. He has two sisters, Rebecca and Sarah. His father is of English and German descent, and his mother is of German ancestry. Cross was raised in a “very progressive” household in Berkeley. He attended Berkeley High School, where he was a member of the drama club.
Cross began his acting career at the age of 12, when he appeared in an episode of the television series Picket Fences. He made his film debut in the independent film Dazed and Confused (1993). He has since appeared in a number of films, including Pleasantville (1998), Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003), Running with Scissors (2006), Milk (2008), Winter’s Bone (2010), and Lincoln (2012).
Cross has also appeared in the television series Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, and Six Feet Under. He directed the short film The Smokers (2000), which won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film.
Cross’s net worth is estimated to be $5 million. He has been in a relationship with actress Julia Stiles since 2011. They have one son together, born in 2017.
