John Benjamin Hickey is an American actor with a long and varied career in film, television and theatre.
He was born in Plano, Texas, on June 25, 1963, the son of John and Mary Hickey. He has two older sisters, Jane and Nancy. His father was an insurance salesman and his mother was a homemaker.
Hickey was educated at St. Mark’s School of Texas, a private preparatory school in Dallas, and then at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where he majored in English and American literature.
He began his acting career in regional theatre, before moving to New York City in 1986. He made his Broadway debut in 1992 in the play “The Substance of Fire”.
Hickey’s film credits include “The Ice Storm” (1997), “Kinsey” (2004), “Flags of Our Fathers” (2006), “The Taking of Pelham 123” (2009) and “The Big C” (2010). He has also appeared in many television shows, including “Law & Order”, “The Good Wife”, “Damages” and “American Horror Story”.
Hickey won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in “The Normal Heart” (2011).
He is divorced from his first wife, Anne Hearst. He has two children, Jack and Emilia.
Hickey is 6 feet 1 inch (1.85 m) tall and has brown hair and blue eyes.
