Joaquín Cortés is a world-renowned Spanish dancer, choreographer, and director. He was born on February 28, 1969, in Madrid, Spain, to Joaquín Cortés Sr. and Carmen García. His father was a Flamenco guitarist and his mother a Flamenco dancer. Cortés began his dance training at the age of eight at the National Conservatory of Dance in Madrid. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Dance in London and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City.

Cortés’ professional career began in 1987 when he joined the Spanish National Ballet. He quickly rose to prominence and was soon invited to dance with some of the world’s most prestigious ballet companies, including the English National Ballet, the Royal Ballet, and the American Ballet Theatre. In 1992, Cortés made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning musical “Cats.” He went on to star in such Broadway hits as “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Miss Saigon,” and “Chicago.”
In 1995, Cortés founded his own dance company, Joaquín Cortés Spanish Dance Company. The company has toured extensively throughout the world and has been featured on such television programs as “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “60 Minutes.” In addition to his work as a dancer and choreographer, Cortés has also directed and produced several dance films, including “Flamenco” (1995) and “Carmen” (2003). He has also served as a judge on the popular television show “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Cortés’ net worth is estimated to be $20 million. He has been married twice; first to ballerina Alessandra Ferri from 1996 to 2002, and then to model Naomi Campbell from 2008 to 2009. He has no children.
