Joan Elizabeth Osborne is an American singer, songwriter, and interpreter of music, having recorded and performed in various genres including rock, pop, soul, R&B, blues, and country. She is best known for her hit song, “One of Us”, which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May of 1996. Osborne was born on July 8, 1962, in Anchorage, Kentucky. Her father was a teacher and her mother was a housewife. She has two older sisters. Osborne began playing guitar and writing songs at the age of eight.

She was influenced by the music of Bob Dylan, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. She attended Catholic schools and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in English. Osborne began her career performing in clubs in New York City. She was discovered by the producer and songwriter Rick Chertoff, who signed her to his label, One Little Indian Records. Her debut album, Blue Million Miles, was released in 1995.

The album’s lead single, “One of Us”, was a massive hit, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Osborne’s follow-up album, Relish, was released in 1996. It peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album’s lead single, “St.

Teresa”, peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Osborne has released eight studio albums, one live album, and one compilation album. Her most recent album, Songs of Bob Dylan, was released in 2016. Osborne has toured with such artists as the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, and Mavis Staples. She has also appeared on television shows such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Osborne has a net worth of $8 million. She has been married to fellow musician and producer Rick Allen since 1987. The couple has two children.
