Jenny Lewis is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and actress. She was born on January 8, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to parents who were both performers in the city’s casinos. Lewis has an older brother and sister. Her parents divorced when she was two years old, and her father died when she was five. Her mother remarried when she was six, and the family moved to Los Angeles. Lewis began acting as a child, appearing in commercials and television shows. She made her film debut in the 1988 movie Troop Beverly Hills.
Lewis began her music career as a child, singing in commercials and television shows. In 1998, she formed the indie rock band Rilo Kiley with Blake Sennett and Pierre de Reeder. The band released six albums between 2001 and 2011. Lewis also released three solo albums, Rabbit Fur Coat (2006), Acid Tongue (2008), and The Voyager (2014). She has collaborated with several artists, including Elvis Costello, M. Ward, and Johnathan Rice.
Lewis has appeared in several films and television shows. She had a recurring role on the television show Gilmore Girls from 2000 to 2007. She also appeared in the films Troop Beverly Hills (1988), The Wizard of Loneliness (1992), Foxfire (1996), Some Girl (1998), and Yes Man (2008).
Lewis has won several awards for her work as a musician. She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album for The Voyager in 2015. She won an American Music Award for Best Alternative Rock Album for Rabbit Fur Coat in 2007.
Lewis has been in a relationship with musician Johnathan Rice since 2006. They have one son together, born in 2011.
