Jay R. Ferguson is an American actor. He is known for his role as Stan Rizzo on the AMC drama Mad Men and as Taylor Kitsch’s character’s older brother, Robbie Wheirdicht, on the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies.
Ferguson was born in Dallas, Texas, on July 25, 1974, the son of James and Donna Ferguson. He has two sisters, Kelly and Kristin. Ferguson was raised in a Catholic household and attended St. Mark’s School of Texas, a private preparatory school in Dallas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1997.
Ferguson’s first acting role was in the 1999 film Office Space as a temp worker who is fired from his job. He has also appeared in films such as The Alamo (2004), Thank You for Smoking (2005), and Evan Almighty (2007). Ferguson had a recurring role on the NBC comedy-drama series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip as Danny Tripp’s (Matthew Perry) best friend and fellow writer, Tom Jeter.
From 2007 to 2015, Ferguson played Stan Rizzo on the AMC drama Mad Men. In 2014, he was cast as Taylor Kitsch’s character’s older brother, Robbie Wheirdicht, on the HBO miniseries Big Little Lies.
Ferguson has been married to actress Lauren Bowles since 2003. They have two sons together: Otis (born 2007) and Fred (born 2010).
In May 2017, it was announced that Ferguson had been cast as the lead in the CBS comedy series The Great Indoors. The series was cancelled after one season.
