Jay Bruce is an American professional baseball outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has also played for the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, and Seattle Mariners. Bruce was born on April 3, 1987, in Beaumont, Texas. His parents are Jay Bruce Sr. and Martha Bruce. He has two brothers, Jeremy and Justin. Bruce attended West Brook High School in Beaumont, where he played baseball and football. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round of the 2005 MLB Draft. Bruce made his MLB debut with the Reds in 2008. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year. Bruce was traded to the Mets in 2016. He was traded to the Indians in 2017. He was traded to the Mariners in 2018. Bruce signed with the Phillies in 2019.
