Jay Bilas is an American college basketball analyst for ESPN, a former college basketball player and lawyer. He is also the head coach of the Jay Bilas Skills Academy, a basketball camp for high school players.

Bilas was born in San Pedro, California, and raised in Rolling Hills, California. His father, Richard, was a doctor, and his mother, Nancy, was a homemaker. Bilas has two sisters, Julie and Lisa. Bilas was a star player on the Rolling Hills High School basketball team, and he was named a McDonald’s All-American.
Bilas attended Duke University, where he played for the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team under head coach Mike Krzyzewski. He was a four-year starter and helped lead the team to the 1986 NCAA Championship. He was named an NCAA All-American in 1986 and 1987.
After graduating from Duke, Bilas played professional basketball in Italy for a year. He then returned to the United States and enrolled in Duke Law School. He graduated from law school in 1992 and passed the North Carolina bar exam.
Bilas began his broadcasting career while still in law school, serving as a color commentator for Duke men’s basketball games on Duke University Television. He then worked as a studio analyst for CBS Sports’ college basketball coverage. In 1995, he joined ESPN as a game analyst and has been with the network ever since.

Bilas has also worked as an analyst for Turner Sports’ coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. He has been a member of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team Committee since 2005.
Bilas is married to his wife, Wendy, and they have two daughters, Olivia and Ava.
