Clarke was born in Winton, Queensland, Australia, on 17 July 1969. His parents were Sheila and Roger Clarke. He has two sisters, Tracy and Heidi. Clarke was educated at St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace in Brisbane. He began his acting career in the early 1990s with roles in the Australian television series Home and Away and Police Rescue. He later appeared in the American television series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and Nash Bridges.
Clarke’s film roles include parts in the films Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002), The Great Gatsby (2013), and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). He has also appeared in the films Zero Dark Thirty (2012) and Everest (2015). His performance in Zero Dark Thirty earned him a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
