Frances Brandon, Duchess of Suffolk, was born on October 16, 1517, at Blackfriars Palace in London. Her parents were Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, and Mary Tudor, the younger sister of Henry VIII. Frances had two sisters, Anne and Catherine. Anne died young, while Catherine married Henry Grey, Marquess of Dorset. Frances was educated at the Convent of the Sisters of St. Clare in Rouen, France.
When Frances was twelve years old, her father arranged for her to marry Henry Grey, Marquess of Dorset. The couple had three children: Lady Jane Grey, Lady Catherine Grey, and Lord Henry Grey.
Frances’s husband died in 1554, and she later remarried Adrian Stokes. The couple had one child, a daughter named Elizabeth.
Frances’s second husband died in 1586, and she later married Richard Bertie. The couple had two children: Peregrine Bertie, 2nd Duke of Lindsey, and Robert Bertie, 1st Earl of Lindsey.
Frances died on September 24, 1659, at the age of sixty-two.
