Ernie Garrett is an American former professional basketball player. Garrett was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on February 28, 1944. He is the son of Ernest and Gladys Garrett. Garrett has two brothers, Robert and Ronald, and two sisters, Beverly and Carolyn. Garrett attended Louisville Male High School, where he played basketball and football. After graduation, Garrett attended the University of Louisville on a basketball scholarship. He played for the Louisville Cardinals from 1962 to 1966.
Garrett was named an All-American in his senior year. After college, Garrett was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in the 1966 NBA draft. He played for the Pistons for two seasons. In 1968, Garrett was traded to the Seattle SuperSonics. He played for the SuperSonics for one season. In 1969, Garrett was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
He played for the Lakers for four seasons. Garrett won an NBA championship with the Lakers in 1972. He retired from the NBA in 1976. Garrett’s career statistics include 5,961 points, 2,973 rebounds, and 1,074 assists. Garrett was inducted into the Louisville Male High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. ..
