Edd Byrnes is an American actor, best known for his starring role in the television series 77 Sunset Strip.

Byrnes was born Edward Byrne Breitenberger in New York City, the son of a German-born father, Frederick Charles Breitenberger, and an Irish-American mother, Gladys (née McNulty). He has two sisters, Joan and Nancy.

Byrnes was raised in Queens, New York. He attended P.S. 40 in Woodside, Queens, and then the High School of Music & Art in Manhattan.

Byrnes began his acting career in the 1950s, appearing in several Off-Broadway productions. He made his television debut in an episode of The Phil Silvers Show.

Byrnes’ breakout role came in 1958, when he was cast as Kookie, the parking lot attendant on 77 Sunset Strip. The show was a huge hit, and Byrnes’ character became a pop culture icon.

Byrnes appeared in a number of films during the 1960s, including Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) and Gidget Goes Hawaiian (1961).

In the 1970s, Byrnes starred in the short-lived television series The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries. He also appeared in a number of made-for-television movies.

In the 1980s, Byrnes appeared in guest roles on such television shows as Magnum, P.I., The A-Team, and Simon & Simon.

In 1987, Byrnes made a cameo appearance in the film The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! as himself.

In the 1990s, Byrnes appeared in guest roles on such television shows as Diagnosis: Murder, Burke’s Law, and The Love Boat. He also appeared in the films Grease 2 (1982) and Spy Hard (1996).

Byrnes has been married three times. His first marriage was to actress Asa Maynor from 1959 to 1960. His second marriage was to actress Catherine Bach from 1972 to 1977. His third marriage is to actress Linda Evans, with whom he has been married since 1991.

Byrnes has three children: a son, Dylan, and two daughters, Caitlin and Brittany.

Byrnes has had a number of health issues in recent years. In 2009, he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his kidney. In 2013, he suffered a stroke.

Byrnes currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
