Dr. Demento is a radio personality best known for his weekly radio show, The Dr. Demento Show, which specializes in novelty songs and comedy. The show began in 1970 and is still going strong today.

Born on April 2, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Demento (real name: Barret Eugene Hansen) was the middle child of three boys. His father was a successful businessman and his mother was a homemaker.

Dr. Demento developed a love for music at an early age, thanks in part to his father’s record collection. He began playing the piano when he was just four years old and by the time he was a teenager, he was proficient in several instruments, including the banjo and guitar.

He attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where he majored in music. It was during his time at Reed that he began working at a local radio station, which is where he got his start in broadcasting.

After graduating from college, Dr. Demento moved to Los Angeles, where he worked at a number of different radio stations. In 1970, he finally got his own show, The Dr. Demento Show, which quickly became popular for its focus on novelty songs and comedy.

The show went through a number of different incarnations over the years, but it remains popular to this day. In addition to his radio show, Dr. Demento has also released a number of compilation albums of novelty songs over the years.

He has been married twice and has two children. His first marriage was to Donna Jean Godchaux, a former member of the Grateful Dead. They were married from 1980 to 1992 and had one child together. His second marriage is to Robyn Tisch, with whom he has been married since 1999.

Dr. Demento has an estimated net worth of $8 million.
