Jackson was born in Miami, Florida, on August 2, 1959. Her father, James Jackson, was a Baptist minister, and her mother, Marlene Jackson, was a housewife. She has two older sisters, Vicki and Valerie. Jackson’s father died when she was 12 years old.
Jackson attended the University of Florida, where she majored in theater arts. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
Jackson’s first major television role was as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. She appeared on the show for six seasons, from 1986 to 1992. Jackson also appeared in a number of films during her career, including The Brady Bunch Movie (1995), Ugly Betty (2006), and Grown Ups (2010).
Jackson has been married three times. Her first husband was Paul Wesselhoff, with whom she has two daughters, Scarlett and Rachel. Jackson’s second husband was Brian Doyle-Murray, with whom she has a son, Luke. Jackson’s third husband is Steve Martin, whom she married in 2000.
