Stacy Lewis (born February 16, 1985) is an American professional golfer on the LPGA Tour. She is the former world No. 1 in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and is the only American to hold that ranking since its inception in 2006. Lewis has won twelve LPGA Tour events, including two major championships, and she has represented the United States in international competitions.

Early Life

Lewis was born in Toledo, Ohio, and grew up in The Woodlands, Texas. Her father, Dale Lewis, is a golf instructor, and her mother, Carol Lewis, is a former high school teacher. She has two older sisters, Ashley and Lauren. Lewis began playing golf at age six, and she started competing in tournaments at age eight. She attended The Woodlands High School, where she was a three-time state champion in golf.

Lewis attended the University of Arkansas on a golf scholarship. She won eight collegiate golf tournaments, including the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship in 2007. She graduated from Arkansas in 2008 with a degree in finance.

Lewis turned professional in 2008 and joined the LPGA Tour in 2009. She won her first LPGA Tour event at the 2009 Kraft Nabisco Championship, which is one of the five major championships in women’s golf. She won her second major championship at the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship. Lewis has won twelve LPGA Tour events overall.

In 2012, Lewis was named the LPGA Tour Player of the Year and the Rolex Player of the Year. She was also named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year. In 2014, she was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Lewis has represented the United States in international competitions. She was a member of the U.S. team at the Solheim Cup in 2011 and 2013. She was also a member of the U.S. team at the 2015 Pan American Games, where she won a gold medal in golf.
