Sammy Kershaw was born on February 24, 1958, in Kaplan, Louisiana. His parents were Mary Alice (née Miller) and Aubrey Ray Kershaw. He has three siblings: Cheryl, Darrell and Gary. Kershaw was educated at Kaplan High School.
Kershaw’s musical career began in the early 1980s. He released his debut album, Feelin’ Good Train, in 1991. The album’s lead single, “Cajun Baby,” peaked at number eight on the Billboard Country Singles chart. Kershaw’s next album, 1992’s Haunted Heart, was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Kershaw has released a total of eleven studio albums. His 1993 album, The Sammy Kershaw Show, was certified platinum by the RIAA. Kershaw has also charted twenty-one singles on the Billboard Country Singles chart, including three number one hits: “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful,” “Queen of My Double-Wide Trailer” and “National Working Woman’s Holiday.”
