Pete Drake (born October 8, 1932 in Nashville, Tennessee) is an American country music singer, songwriter and record producer. He is best known for his work as a session musician, and for his pioneering work in the field of country music production.

Drake was born in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of country music singer-songwriter Ernest Drake and his wife, the former Hattie Melton. He began his musical career as a child, singing on his father’s radio show. He later learned to play the guitar and banjo, and became a member of his father’s band.

Drake’s first professional job came in 1952, when he was hired to play guitar on a recording session for country singer Carl Smith. He soon began working regularly as a session musician, and became one of the most in-demand guitarists in Nashville. He also began to work as a producer, and in 1957 he produced his first hit record, “Party Doll” by Buddy Knox.

In the 1960s, Drake became one of the most successful country music producers, working with such artists as George Jones, Tammy Wynette, and Dolly Parton. He also had a successful career as a solo artist, scoring several hit records, including “Forever” and “My Boyfriend’s Back.”

In the 1970s, Drake began to focus more on his work as a producer, working with such artists as Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. He also continued to release occasional solo records, including the album Pete Drake and His Talking Guitar (1975).

Drake’s career as a producer came to an end in the 1980s, but he continued to perform occasionally as a solo artist. In recent years, he has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Drake has been married three times and has four children. His first wife was country singer Dottie West, with whom he had two children. His second wife was Margo Anderson, with whom he had one child. His third wife is Sue Drake, with whom he has one child.
