Olave Baden-Powell was born on February 22, 1889, in London, England. She was the third and youngest child of Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell and Henrietta Grace Smyth Baden-Powell. Her father was a British Army officer, and her mother was a writer and editor. Olave was educated at home by her mother and governesses. She was an excellent horsewoman and an avid reader.
Olave met her future husband, Robert Baden-Powell, in 1910. He was a British Army officer, and the founder of the Scouting movement. They married in 1912, and had three children: Peter, Heather, and Betty.
Olave became involved in the Scouting movement after her husband founded it in 1907. She became the World Chief Guide in 1930, and held that position until her death in 1977. She traveled extensively, promoting Scouting and working to improve the lives of girls and young women around the world.
Olave Baden-Powell died on June 25, 1977, at her home in Nyeri, Kenya. She was 88 years old.
