Michael Jace is an American actor. He is best known for his role as a police officer in the FX crime drama The Shield.
Jace was born in Paterson, New Jersey, on July 18, 1962. His father was a postal worker and his mother was a homemaker. He has two older sisters. Jace was educated at Catholic schools in Paterson and later attended the University of Southern California, where he studied acting.
Jace began his acting career in the early 1990s with guest roles on television shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Married… with Children. His first major role came in 2002, when he was cast as Los Angeles police officer Julien Lowe on The Shield. The show was a critical and commercial success, and Jace’s performance earned him a nomination for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Jace has also appeared in the films Planet of the Apes (2001), State of Play (2009), and For Colored Girls (2010). In 2014, he was convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, April Jace. He is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence.
