Michael Doyle is an American businessman and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of the online retail giant Amazon.com, and also the founder of the aerospace manufacturer Blue Origin. He has an estimated net worth of $85.2 billion as of March 2021.
Doyle was born on January 12, 1964, in Seattle, Washington. His parents are Jeff Bezos, a former vice president of D. E. Shaw & Co., and Jackie Siegel, an engineer at Honeywell. He has three siblings: two sisters, Jeff and Mark, and a brother, Christian.
Doyle was educated at Princeton University, where he studied electrical engineering and computer science. He later worked on Wall Street for D. E. Shaw & Co., and then as a senior vice president at the investment bank Lehman Brothers.
In 1994, Doyle and his business partner, Jeff Bezos, founded Amazon.com, an online bookseller that would later become the world’s largest online retailer. Amazon went public in 1997, and Doyle served as its first president and chief operating officer. He left Amazon in 1999 to focus on his other business interests.
In 2000, Doyle founded Blue Origin, an aerospace manufacturer that is developing technologies to enable private space travel. He is also a trustee of the Museum of Flight in Seattle and a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
Doyle is married to MacKenzie Scott, a novelist and philanthropist. They have four children together.
