Marlon Samuels is a Jamaican cricketer who plays internationally for the West Indies. He is a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm off-spin bowler. He made his Test debut in 2000 and his One Day International (ODI) debut in 1999.

Early Life

Marlon Samuels was born on December 5, 1981, in Kingston, Jamaica. His parents are Lloyd and Inez Samuels. He has two brothers, Dwayne and Donovan, and two sisters, Shelly-Ann and Sherice.

Samuels attended Wolmer’s High School for Boys in Kingston. He played cricket for the school team, and also played football and basketball.

After high school, Samuels attended the University of the West Indies, where he studied physical education. He played cricket for the university team, and also played for Jamaica’s Under-19 team.

Career

Samuels made his Test debut for the West Indies in 2000, against Pakistan. He scored his first Test century in 2002, against Sri Lanka. He has played in over 50 Test matches for the West Indies, scoring over 3,000 runs.

Samuels made his ODI debut for the West Indies in 1999, against Sri Lanka. He has played in over 150 ODIs for the West Indies, scoring over 4,000 runs. He was a member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 World Twenty20.

In 2013, Samuels was suspended from cricket for two years after being found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) code of conduct. The suspension was later reduced to 18 months.

In 2016, Samuels was recalled to the West Indies Test squad for the first time in four years. He scored an unbeaten century in the first Test against England, helping the West Indies to win the match.

In 2017, Samuels was once again recalled to the West Indies Test squad, this time for the series against Pakistan. He scored a century in the second Test, helping the West Indies to win the match and level the series 1-1.
