Mark Hoppus is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and television personality. He is best known as the bassist and co-lead vocalist of the rock band Blink-182. Hoppus has also co-founded two clothing companies, Atticus and Macbeth Footwear.
Born in Ridgecrest, California, on March 15, 1972, Hoppus was raised in a musical family. His father, Tom, was a musician who played in a country-rock band called Cottonwood Junction. His mother, Kerry, was a schoolteacher. Hoppus has one older sister, Anne.
Hoppus began playing bass guitar at the age of thirteen. He was influenced by punk rock bands such as the Descendents and the Ramones. He also cites new wave and synth-pop bands such as the Cure, Depeche Mode, and Duran Duran as influences.
In 1992, Hoppus and his friend Scott Raynor founded the rock band Blink-182. The band achieved mainstream success with their album Enema of the State, which was released in 1999. The album featured the hit singles “All the Small Things” and “What’s My Age Again?”
Hoppus has also released two solo albums: Plus + (1999) and Double Happiness (2005). He has also collaborated with other artists, including New Found Glory, MxPx, Sugarcult, and Simple Plan.
In 2010, Hoppus and Blink-182 co-founder Tom DeLonge founded the multimedia company To The Stars…Academy of Arts & Science. The company focuses on science, aerospace, and entertainment.

5 | If we tried to write about politics, you'd realize that we're all a bunch of idiots. |
6 | If at first you don't succeed, pay someone else to do it for you. |
7 | We've done the same things that we were doing in the begining, and we never wanted our band to stay small. I mean, we want our band to be as big as it can, and I'm not going to die wondering about some kid that calls us a sell-out at a show. I don't have a problem being on MTV, and I don't have a problem being on the radio. I actually like it. So there. And anyone that calls me a sell out is just jealous. |
