Mablean Ephriam is an American attorney and former judge. She was born on March 8, 1947, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. Her parents were sharecroppers. She has four siblings. Ephriam attended local schools and graduated from high school in 1965. She then attended Tougaloo College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1969. She earned a law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 1972.
Ephriam began her career as a prosecutor in the Wayne County, Michigan, Prosecutor’s Office. She later worked as a criminal defense attorney in private practice. In 1985, she was appointed as a judge to the Wayne County Circuit Court, where she served until 2001. In 2001, she was appointed to the Michigan Court of Appeals, where she served until 2003.
Ephriam has been a guest on several television shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show and The View. She is the author of two books, “Divorce Court: The Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth” and “Tough Love for Singles.”
Ephriam has been married twice. She has three children from her first marriage. She has been divorced since 2003.
