Lisa George is an English actress, best known for her roles as Beth Tinker in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street and as Birgitte in the BBC comedy series Call the Midwife.

George was born in Manchester, England, on 26th September 1966. Her parents were both teachers. She has two older sisters. George was educated at a local primary school and then at Manchester High School for Girls. She went on to study drama at the University of Manchester.

George’s acting career began in the early 1990s with roles in several British television series, including The Bill, Casualty and Emmerdale. In 2000, she landed the role of Beth Tinker in Coronation Street, one of Britain’s most popular soap operas. George has appeared in more than 1,000 episodes of the show.

In 2012, George began appearing in the BBC comedy series Call the Midwife as Birgitte, a Danish midwife who comes to work at the Nonnatus House convent in London’s East End. The show has been a huge success, with George receiving critical acclaim for her performance.

George has been married to actor Robert Beck since 1992. The couple have two children.
