Kris Russell is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman who is currently playing for the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on May 2, 1987, in Caroline, Alberta, Canada. His parents are Doug and Shelley Russell. He has two older brothers, Kyle and Ryan. Russell was raised in a hockey family and began playing the sport at a young age. He played minor hockey in his hometown of Caroline before moving on to play junior hockey for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

He was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets in 2007. He has also played for the St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames. Russell is known for his offensive abilities and is considered one of the best offensive defencemen in the NHL. He has represented Canada at the World Championships on two occasions, winning a gold medal in 2015.

Russell is married to Ashley Nicole Johnson. They have two daughters together, Brooklyn and Blake.
