Kathryn Lasky is an American author, best known for writing children’s and young adult fiction. She has written over 100 books, including the New York Times bestselling Guardians of Ga’Hoole series.

Lasky was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on June 24, 1944. She is the daughter of Sylvia (née Cohen) and Henry Lasky, Jr., a television producer. She has two sisters, Jane and Amy. Lasky was educated at The Putney School and Smith College.

Lasky’s career began as a journalist, writing for magazines such as McCall’s, Redbook, and Family Circle. She also wrote for television, including episodes of the soap opera The Guiding Light. In 1982, she published her first book for children, A Time for Courage, which was followed by over 100 more titles. Her best-known work is the Guardians of Ga’Hoole series, which consists of 16 books and has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide.

Lasky’s husband, Bruce Coville, is also an author of children’s books. The couple have three children: two daughters, Jessica and Madeline, and a son, Nicholas.

Lasky has won numerous awards for her work, including the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, the Parents’ Choice Award, and the National Jewish Book Award.
