Jacques Pépin is a world-renowned French chef, author, and television personality. He is known for his simple and elegant approach to cooking, as well as his mastery of classic French techniques.

Pépin was born in Bourg-en-Bresse, France, in 1935. His father was a doctor and his mother was a homemaker. He has two sisters.

Pépin began his culinary training at the age of 13, apprenticing at a local restaurant. He went on to study at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, where he graduated first in his class.

Pépin began his professional career working in some of the finest restaurants in France, including Maxim’s and the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. He eventually moved to the United States, where he worked as a private chef for several wealthy families.

In 1973, Pépin debuted on public television with the cooking show “Jacques Pépin’s Kitchen: Cooking with Claudine.” The show was an instant hit, and led to a series of highly successful cooking programs, including “Jacques Pépin’s Cooking School” and “Jacques Pépin: More Fast Food My Way.”

Pépin has been married twice. His first wife, Gloria, died in 1997. He has two daughters from his first marriage, Claudine and Catherine. His second wife, Rozanne Gold, is a food writer and cooking instructor. They live in Madison, Connecticut.

Pépin is a naturalized citizen of the United States. He has been awarded the National Medal of Arts and the Legion of Honor, France’s highest civilian honor.
