Jack Thayer was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 2, 1894. His father, Frank Thayer, was a successful businessman, and his mother, Margaret (née Ziegler) Thayer, was a homemaker. Jack had two older sisters, Marion and Gladys. He was educated at the prestigious St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire, and graduated in 1912.
Jack Thayer’s career began on Wall Street, where he worked as a stockbroker. He later joined his father’s business, Thayer & Company. In 1917, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War I. After the war, he returned to Thayer & Company.
In April 1912, Jack Thayer boarded the RMS Titanic at Southampton as a first-class passenger. He was traveling with his parents and sister Marion. His father and mother occupied cabin C-68, and Jack and Marion occupied cabin C-70.
On the night of April 14, 1912, Jack was awakened by the ship’s collision with an iceberg. He dressed quickly and went up to the deck, where he helped his father and mother into lifeboats. He then returned to his cabin to fetch his sister Marion, but she had already gone up to the deck. Jack was last seen by Titanic survivor Harold Bride standing on the stern of the ship as it sank into the Atlantic Ocean. His body was never recovered.
At the time of his death, Jack Thayer was 18 years old. He was survived by his father, mother, and two sisters.
Jack Thayer’s net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be $2 million (equivalent to $48 million in 2019).

1 | I'm strictly a movie person. I mean, I watch the HBO documentaries and Netflix. |
2 | I had to pretend to drown. I was underwater, which is scary, and I'm not afraid of water, but people do die underwater. |
3 | As an actor, I'll take any job. |
4 | Even to play a dead body; that'd be an easy gig. |

8 | I love not serious documentaries, too, but I love seeing people at their wits' end, I guess. |
9 | Documentaries are my favorite thing, and the more depressing, the better. |
10 | If someone is doing something crazy - or what I think is crazy - I'm watching, but also am I keeping the actual seriousness of someone actually running for president in my mind all the time? |
11 | I mostly, for someone who makes a lot of their living in comedy - and even for someone who doesn't make their living in comedy - I don't watch a lot of comedy. |
