She has four siblings: Antonio Carlos Pires Filho, Maria do Carmo Pires, Paulo César Pires, and Pedro Pires. She attended the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, where she studied acting.

Pires began her career in 1981, appearing in the television series “Escalada”. She has since appeared in numerous television series and films, including “O Clone”, “Babilônia”, and “Velho Chico”. She has won several awards for her work, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her role in “Babilônia”.

Pires has been married twice. Her first husband was actor Fábio Junior, with whom she has two sons: Vinícius and Pietro. Her second husband is actor Rodrigo Santoro, with whom she has one daughter: Clara.
