George Duke (born January 12, 1946) is an American musician, composer and producer. He has worked with many artists including Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, Michael Jackson and Prince. Duke’s style blends jazz, funk, rock and R&B.

George Duke was born in San Rafael, California, to parents who were both musicians. His father, George Duke Sr., was a trombonist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. His mother, Ruth, was a singer. Duke began playing piano at the age of seven. He went on to study at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the University of Southern California.

Duke’s career began in the 1960s when he played with the band The Jazz Crusaders. He went on to work with Miles Davis on the albums In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew. Duke also worked with Frank Zappa on the albums Apostrophe (‘), One Size Fits All and Zappa in New York.

In the 1970s, Duke began working as a solo artist and released his debut album, A Brazilian Love Affair. He also produced albums for other artists, including Stanley Clarke and Jean-Luc Ponty.

In the 1980s, Duke worked with Michael Jackson on the album Thriller. He also produced albums for Prince, including 1999 and Purple Rain.

In the 1990s, Duke released the album The Best of George Duke and toured with his own band. He also continued to produce albums for other artists, including Natalie Cole and Kenny G.

Duke has won two Grammy Awards and has been nominated for eight others. He was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame in 2013.
