Abrego was born in Los Angeles, California. His parents are of Mexican descent. He has two sisters. Abrego attended California State University, Northridge, where he earned a degree in radio and television production.
Abrego’s first job in the entertainment industry was working as a page at NBC. He later worked as a production assistant on the game show “Press Your Luck.” He then transitioned into reality television, working on such shows as “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race.”
In 2004, Abrego co-founded 51 Minds Entertainment with Mark Cronin. The company’s first show was “The Surreal Life,” which aired on the WB network. The show featured a group of celebrities living together in a house for two weeks. The show was a ratings success, and led to several spin-offs, including “Flavor of Love,” “I Love New York,” and “Rock of Love.”
51 Minds Entertainment was acquired by Endemol in 2006. Abrego continued to work for the company, serving as an executive producer on such shows as “The Apprentice” and “Beauty and the Geek.” In 2014, he became a executive producer on the Lifetime reality series “Little Women: LA.”
Abrego has been married twice. His first marriage was to Julie Brown, with whom he has two children. His second marriage is to Maricruz Delgado, with whom he has one child.
