Bubba Smith was a star football player at his high school in Beaumont. He played college football at the University of Michigan. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the first round of the 1967 NFL Draft. He played for the Colts from 1967 to 1971. He was traded to the Oakland Raiders in 1972. He played for the Raiders for two seasons. He was traded to the Houston Oilers in 1974. He played for the Oilers for one season. He was released by the Oilers in 1975. He signed with the Chicago Bears in 1976. He played for the Bears for one season. He retired from football in 1977.
