Brian Hargrove is an American television writer and producer. He is best known for his work on the sitcoms Cheers, The Tony Randall Show, and Family Ties.
Hargrove was born in New York City, the son of television writer and producer Arthur Hargrove. He has two sisters, Barbara and Nancy. Hargrove’s father died when he was eight years old, and his mother remarried soon afterwards.
Hargrove was educated at the High School of Music & Art in New York City and at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He began his career as a writer on The Tony Randall Show in 1976. He went on to write for a number of other sitcoms, including Cheers, Family Ties, and Empty Nest.
In addition to his work as a television writer, Hargrove has also written for the stage. He co-wrote the play Love! Valour! Compassion!, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1995.
Hargrove is married to television producer and writer Jill Dworkin. They have two children, Emma and Benjamin.
Hargrove has won four Emmy Awards for his work on Cheers, Family Ties, and The Tony Randall Show.
