Early Life

Adele Givens was born on October 10, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were both African American. She has four siblings.

Givens was raised in the Chicago suburb of Maywood. She attended Proviso East High School, where she was a cheerleader. After graduation, she attended Northeastern Illinois University.


Givens began her career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1980s. She gained popularity with her appearances on the Fox sitcom In Living Color. She also appeared on the first season of the reality show I Survived a Japanese Game Show.

In addition to her work in television, Givens has also appeared in films such as Friday (1995) and Soul Plane (2004).
