Craig Bartlett is an American animator, writer, producer, and director. He is best known for creating the Nickelodeon animated television series Hey Arnold!, for which he was also the head writer and executive producer.
Bartlett was born in Seattle, Washington, on February 27, 1957. He is the youngest of three children. His father was a doctor and his mother was a homemaker. Bartlett has two older sisters. He attended Seattle public schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1975.
Bartlett began his career as an animator for the PBS children’s series Sesame Street in the late 1970s. He later worked on the CBS animated series Richie Rich and the NBC animated series ALF: The Animated Series. In 1992, Bartlett created Hey Arnold!, which premiered on Nickelodeon in 1996. The show ran for five seasons and 100 episodes. Bartlett served as the head writer and executive producer for the entire series.
Hey Arnold! was a critical and commercial success. It won a Peabody Award and an Emmy Award, and was nominated for numerous other awards. The show has been syndicated in over 150 countries and has spawned a feature film, two made-for-television movies, video games, and a line of merchandise.
Since Hey Arnold!, Bartlett has created and executive produced the Nickelodeon animated series Rugrats Pre-School Daze and Random! Cartoons. He has also directed two live-action films: Stanley’s Dinosaur Round-Up (2006) and Stanley’s Magic Garden (2007).
Bartlett is married to Lisa Simon, a former Nickelodeon executive. They have two children together.
