Christian Leonard Tenow was born on January 17, in the year 1992, in Gothenburg, Sweden. His parents are both of Swedish descent, and he has two older sisters. Christian began playing tennis at the age of five and started competing in junior tournaments when he was eight years old. He won his first junior tournament at the age of eleven. Christian turned professional in 2009, and his first ATP World Tour event was the Stockholm Open, where he reached the second round. He has won one ATP World Tour singles title and four ATP Challenger Tour singles titles. His career-high singles ranking is World No. 55, which he achieved in October 2019. As of February 2020, Christian is ranked World No. 97 in the ATP singles rankings.
In May 2019, Christian won his first ATP World Tour singles title at the Geneva Open, defeating Guido Pella in the final. This was his maiden ATP World Tour singles final appearance. In September 2019, Christian reached his second ATP World Tour singles final at the Moselle Open, but lost to Benoît Paire in three sets.
Christian’s best result at a Grand Slam tournament came at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships, where he reached the third round before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in five sets.
Christian has a career record of 3–10 against top 10 opponents, with his only win coming against then-World No. 9 Stan Wawrinka at the 2015 Geneva Open. He has also defeated former World No. 1 Andy Murray at the 2018 Queen’s Club Championships.
Christian’s favorite surface is clay, and his favorite shot is the backhand down-the-line. He is coached by Magnus Norman.
