Anne Jeffreys is an American actress, best known for her roles on television. She was born Anne Carmichael Jeffreys on January 26, 1923, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, the daughter of John William Jeffreys and Caroline Elizabeth Jeffreys. She has two sisters, Caroline and Betty. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied drama. Her first professional role was in a production of “The Merchant of Venice” in 1942. After graduation, she moved to New York City, where she worked as a model and an actress. She made her Broadway debut in “The Voice of the Turtle” in 1943.

In 1944, she married Robert Sterling, with whom she would have two sons, Jeffrey and Andrew. The couple appeared together on television shows such as “Topper” (1953-1955) and “The Bob Cummings Show” (1955-1959). In 1960, Jeffreys guest-starred on an episode of “Perry Mason” as defendant Della Street. She would go on to make several more guest appearances on the show. In 1964, she appeared in the film “Kisses for My President”, which starred Fred MacMurray and Polly Bergen.

From 1964 to 1967, Jeffreys played the role of Amanda Tate on the soap opera “General Hospital”. In 1967, she appeared in the film “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”, which starred Rex Harrison and Gene Tierney. From 1968 to 1969, she starred in the sitcom “To Rome with Love”. In 1970, she guest-starred on an episode of “The Love Boat”. In 1984, she guest-starred on an episode of “Murder, She Wrote”.

Jeffreys’ husband Robert Sterling died in 2006. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
