Andy Samuel is an American actor, comedian, and writer. He is best known for his role as Andy Dwyer in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.
Born in Berkeley, California, on April 19, 1974, Samuel was raised in Oakland. His parents divorced when he was nine years old, and he was raised by his mother, a schoolteacher. He has two older sisters.
Samuel attended Oakland High School, where he played football and ran track. He then attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he majored in history.
After graduation, Samuel worked as a substitute teacher for a year before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in comedy. He began performing stand-up comedy at clubs and colleges, and soon began appearing in television commercials.
In 2006, Samuel was cast as Andy Dwyer in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. The show was a critical and commercial success, and Samuel became a breakout star. He appeared in all seven seasons of the show, from 2009 to 2015.
In addition to his work on Parks and Recreation, Samuel has appeared in the films The Five-Year Engagement (2012), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (2012), and They Came Together (2014). He has also guest-starred on the television shows Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013) and Maron (2015).
Samuel is married to actress Rashida Jones. They have two children together.
