Thomas Dolby is an English musician, producer, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his 1982 hit single “She Blinded Me with Science” and for his work in the field of electronic music.

Dolby was born in London, England, on October 14, 1958. His father, Martin, was a doctor, and his mother, Margaret, was a nurse. He has two older sisters, Jane and Sarah. Dolby was educated at Westminster School and at the University of Sussex, where he studied natural sciences.

Dolby’s musical career began in the late 1970s, when he played keyboards in the band The Bubblegummers. He later joined the new wave band The Buggles, who had a hit single with “Video Killed the Radio Star” in 1979. Dolby left The Buggles in 1981 to pursue a solo career.

Dolby’s first solo album, The Golden Age of Wireless, was released in 1982. It included the hit single “She Blinded Me with Science”, which reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States. The album was a critical and commercial success, and helped to popularize electronic music.

Dolby’s second album, The Flat Earth, was released in 1984. It was less successful than its predecessor, but still received positive reviews from critics.

In the late 1980s, Dolby began working in the field of computer-generated music. He developed a software program called Headspace, which allows users to create and manipulate sounds. He also founded a company called Beatnik, which produces software for creating and playing music on mobile devices.

In the 1990s, Dolby returned to performing and recording music. He released the albums Astronauts & Heretics (1992) and Retrospectacle (2005). He has also composed music for film and television, including the theme for the TV series The Big Bang Theory.

Dolby is married to actress Kathleen Beller. They have two children together.

But it's an unfair requirement to make of musicians to expect them to have no shoes on their feet, or it's not "authentic." That's not reasonable.
5	[on why he didn't produce more records] Producing means months in the studio with a fair amount of responsibility. There's the budget, the deadline, the drummer's drug problem, whatever. You have to be a grown-up, really. When you're the artist, you're allowed to be a crazy kid, and everyone around you supports that behavior, because they know that's where the excitement starts. So they allow you to be irresponsible. I tend to ping-pong between the child and the adult, and I don't think I could've spent all my time in the back seat. Also, I'm something of an exhibitionist. I need to express myself and have my own name attached to it, rather than somebody else's. In balance, you know? In good measure.
