Shiri Appleby is an American actress, director, and producer. She is known for her leading role as Rachel Goldberg in the Lifetime drama series UnREAL.

Appleby was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 7, 1978, to Dina Appleby, a Jewish day school teacher, and Jerry Appleby, a telecommunications executive. She has a younger brother, Evan. Appleby was raised in Calabasas, a suburb of Los Angeles. She attended Calabasas High School, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the drama club.
After high school, Appleby attended the University of Southern California, where she studied English and Creative Writing. She later transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles, where she graduated with a degree in English in 2000.
Appleby began her acting career in 1997 with a recurring role on the NBC teen drama series Beverly Hills, 90210. She later appeared in episodes of the CBS medical drama series ER and the WB drama series Roswell. In 1999, she had a starring role in the short-lived ABC comedy-drama series Push, Nevada.
In 2002, Appleby starred in the independent film Swimfan. The following year, she had a supporting role in the romantic comedy A Guy Thing. In 2004, she appeared in the teen comedy Mean Girls and the horror film The Grudge.
In 2005, Appleby had a recurring role on the NBC drama series Six Degrees. The following year, she starred in the Lifetime television film A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story.
In 2007, Appleby starred in the independent film Charlie Wilson’s War. The following year, she had a recurring role on the NBC medical drama series ER.
In 2009, Appleby starred in the independent film My Life Untitled. The following year, she had a recurring role on the ABC Family drama series Life Unexpected.
